The manifesto of Italian Rationalism
Rationalism in Como has probably reached its maximum peak, specially thanks to famous architect Giuseppe Terragni, universally accepted has the father of this architectural movement. The birth of this movement is dated back to 1930, when a group of seven architects founded the MIAR, Italian Movement for Rational Architecture
This guided tour will show you the Italian masterpiece of rationalism, the “Casa del Popolo” first know as ” Casa del Fascio” . This is the iconic work of Terragni, which brought his idea of modern structure with rigorous symmetry. The visit goes on with the Negozio Vitrum and the facade of the hotel Metropole Suisse, before arriving at the rationalist district with the Novocomum, projected in 1927 by Terragni, and allocated in flats. This building caused the indignation of the purists for the “movement” of the facades and the subtraction of volumes. Following the Monument to the follen soldiers, Monumento ai caduti, designed by Antonio Sant’Elia, the Canottieri Lario, the Sinigaglia stadium facade and the house of Giuliani Frigerio, the last building realized by Terragni
